To know Molly McCann is to know a vibrant 16-year-old girl full of life, spirit, and athleticism. Molly, sophomore at Maclay, is also a girl who lives with the daily challenges of epilepsy.
Molly was diagnosed with epilepsy in January 2013 after suffering her first grand-mal seizure. After months of continued seizures and trying to find the right medicine she has finally been seizure free for over a year. Now she, like all teenagers is anxiously awaiting to get her driver’s license. Molly is one of 84,000 children who live with epilepsy in the state of Florida.
On Friday, April 10, Molly traveled with her mother and Karen Egozi, Chief Executive Officer of the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, to Washington D.C. to take part in the 14th annual Teen’s Speak Up event sponsored by the National Epilepsy Foundation. For four days she and other teens from all over the country will receive advocacy training, meet with their legislators, and tell their personal stories. All in hopes to gain more funds for epilepsy funding and research.
Also while in D.C. Molly and her mom were to participate in the 9th annual National Walk for Epilepsy on Saturday.
